We know that you only buy sod once or twice in a life time, and we want to make it easy for you with these frequently asked questions (FAQ) from clients when buying sod for their new or existing home lawn. My lawn doesn’t look so great, what are my options?
If your lawn is looking like it needs a lot of work because it is uneven, soggy, has lots of weeds, or moss, replacing it with a new lawn is quick fix for what otherwise can take a year or more of remedial work. If you are planning to sell your home, a new lawn adds great appeal and it is ready for show time in 2-3 weeks. We can offer you a grass varietal that best suits your climate. We can also help you consider soil improvement options.
I need a lawn for my new house, what are my options?
If you’re moving into a new home you have a few options to consider. Do you want to invest in an irrigation system to take the hassle out of watering your lawn? Do you need soil preparation to make sure you have appropriate drainage? We’re here to help you pick the right grass sod varietal for your climate.
Should I seed to save money or simply get a new lawn?
Saving money is a good thing. That said, you will be surprised how affordable a new lawn is compared to the time and effort it takes to grow one from seed. We made a comparison between seeding and installing a new instant lawn to help you choose what best suits your preference.
Should I install a new lawn myself or hire a landscaper?
You can install a new lawn yourself and we have some lawn installation tips for you to make sure you get good results. If you prefer to take the easy route, we will be glad to recommend you a local landscaper.
How do I measure how much sod I need?
You can calculate the square feet that you need to cover by multiplying width x depth. If you have multiple rectangular surfaces, simple add them up. You can convert square feet to rolls of a square yards by dividing them by 9. We can stack up to 90 rolls on a pallet. You can also use our Turf Calculator.
What is the best time of year to replace my lawn?
You can install turf nearly any time of year! Excluding when the ground is frozen or snow covered.
Do I need irrigation?
When you first install your new turf you will need to water it regularly for the first few weeks. You can do this with either a below ground irrigation system or regular sprinklers. After the turf has established it no longer needs water. If you’d like it stay green over the summer months though it will require watering.
Do I need to replace my soil?
This is not always necessary. You can always freshen up your existing soil with some fertilizer. If you have poor drainage or need to raise the lawn, you will need to add fresh soil and/or sand.
Should I fertilize my lawn?
We do recommend fertilizing the soil before you install the turf. To keep your lawn healthy, lush and weed free you should fertilize about 4 times a year, change of each season.
Is fertilizer harmful for my children and/or pets?
Fertilizer should not be ingested by people or animals. If you think there is any possibility of ingestion please keep children and pets off the lawn for a few days while the fertilizer dissolves.
Do you use Pesticides on the turf?
We do not use Pesticides. We keep our fields weed free by proper fertilization and care.
