Sod Installation and Lawn Care
Preparing the Site
Before installing sod, it’s essential to properly prepare your soil. This ensures that your new lawn has the best foundation for long-term health.

- Clear debris: Remove any building materials, stones larger than 2 inches, and debris.
- Grade the area: Eliminate drainage issues by sloping the soil away from foundations and filling low spots.
- Till the soil: Loosening the soil helps prevent compaction and improves root penetration.
- Add topsoil: Spread 4-6 inches of quality topsoil with a pH between 6.0-7.0 to support nutrient retention.
- Fix drainage: Use drainage rock and washed sand to correct poor drainage areas.
- Fertilize: Apply a turf starter fertilizer (18-12-14 or 18-18-18) to provide essential nutrients.
- Moisten the soil: Lightly water the soil before installing the sod.
- Install immediately: Sod should be installed the same day it’s delivered to keep it fresh.
- Align edges: Begin along a straight line, such as a driveway or sidewalk, and stagger seams for a tight fit.
- Water immediately: Water the newly installed sod with at least 1 inch of water and continue to monitor it closely for 2-4 weeks.
